Six Laws of Motion curated by Tim Hyde July 14 - August 13 Opening reception Thursday July 14, 6 - 8pm The Gallery is pleased to announce Six Laws of Motion, an exhibition of six video works. Curated by artist Tim Hyde, the show includes work by Ronnie Bass, Ethan Breckenridge, Tommy Hartung, Oliver Herring, Yasue Maetake, and Tobias Putrih. The videos in the show have been created by artists who also make objects and/or construct environments; the manipulation of these objects (water, twist-ties, recreated office cubicles, unidentifiable refuse, and mysterious chemicals, to name a few) defines the central action in each video. By redefining spatial rules, defying gravity, or employing low-budget special effects techniques developed during the early days of cinema, the artists in the exhibition explore the subjective nature of the physical environment and the ways in which video can be harnessed to transform perceptions of materiality and space. The gallery is also pleased to announce that it will be representing Tim Hyde. His first solo exhibition will take place in Fall 2006.
